The day started off getting players primed and ready to perform, as they were put through the official Syracuse University dynamic warm up led by the Orange’s very own Strength and Conditioning Coach, William Hicks. Despite the cloudy skies, falling rain and a muddy field, this Elite group of athletes persevered the elements and moved on through a series of speed and agility drills. Learning some individual techniques to improve 40 yd times, showing off footwork through the ladders and explosive bag jumping and cone work, the coaches were impressed as they evaluated the talent at this Camp.
The afternoon session provided an opportunity for the players to demonstrate their refined skills during some exciting 7-on-7 competition. The powerful linemen battled in the trenches, running backs sliced through the mud trying to avoid the daunting linebackers, and the receivers showed amazing concentration catching slippery footballs, while defensive backs were diving for some incredible interceptions. The talent at all positions was evident for the Syracuse coaches to see. At the end of the day some great potential was demonstrated and some prospects have made names for themselves from what they displayed on and off the field. A Most Coachable Player Award was selected for each position, and were presented to:
- QB – Jakob Loucks
- RB – Charlie Keenan
- WR – Dimitri Vaillancourt
- OL – Lake Johnston
- DL – Ryan McNamee
- LB – Scott Ferris
- DB – Duncan McDonald
This first class event also provided the parents of our athletes with invaluable information at our inaugural Parents’ Symposium, which focused on preparing young athletes for optimal performance and a healthy lifestyle, including proper sports nutrition, and strength and conditioning for high school football players. They were also given first hand knowledge and specific details for a successful recruiting process from Syracuse’s Quality Control and Recruiting Coach.
